Meet the Veterinarians

Our doctors attend National Conventions each year and usually take more continuing education classes than required by the state board. They learn about new procedures and developments by attending these lectures, through diagnostic computer software, by keeping the latest medical library, and through using online programs such as Cornell’s Consultant and Veterinary Information Network. In addition, they are very active in the veterinary community.

Dr. Jennifer Hew

Owner/Veterinarian

A 1989 graduate of the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph, Canada, Dr. Hew practiced veterinary medicine for two years in Ontario before relocating to Miami, where she engaged in relief work with several hospitals in Dade & Broward counties. In 1999 she joined the AAHA accredited Hammocks Veterinary Hospital as an associate veterinarian, becoming the sole owner in 2002. Dr. Hew’s track record as an accomplished medical doctor and admired educator has propelled her to the top of her field. She is the owner of Hammocks Veterinary Hospital and ensures the very best care for her patients by remaining current with the latest in continuing education and technology, while at the same time taking a keen interest in guiding her staff through their own career goals. Dedicated to the field of veterinary medicine, her many board affiliations with prestigious organizations keep Dr. Hew networked with esteemed colleagues and specialists. A family oriented community leader, Dr. Hew is a familiar sponsor of local scholastic and sports events. When she is not caring for patients or rescuing and nurturing strays, Dr. Hew can be found gardening, enjoying her Koi, traveling, spending time with her husband and five furry family members.

Cyrena Rose

M.S., D.V.M.

Veterinarian

Dr. Rose was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Marine Science and Biology at Jacksonville University, Jacksonville, Florida. She met and married her husband in Jacksonville while finishing her degree. They moved to Tampa for her to attain her Master’s Degree in Zoology studying brittlestars in Tampa Bay. Their first dog, Testarosa, a red headed golden retriever, prompted her to establish a relationship with a Tampa veterinarian’s office. She was soon employed at the vet and over several years progressed from receptionist to technician to assistant office manager. With the encouragement of her husband and family she then pursued her veterinary degree. She graduated from University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine with High Honors in 2002. Upon graduation she returned home to her husband in Tampa and worked at a small animal hospital in Tampa for several years as an associate veterinarian. Dr. Rose currently works as a relief veterinarian in Florida spanning from Key Largo all the way to Jacksonville and Tampa. She has been working with Dr. Hew, and all of the wonderful staff at Hammocks Veterinary Hospital since 2005.
